Matthew Fairbank was born in the southern New Jersey pine barrens where he practiced fine art from a young age. Growing up, his surroundings and family enriched his awareness of nature and the decorative arts. He studied furniture making under the supervision of modern furniture masters John Dunnigan and Rosanne Somerson at the Rhode Island School of Design. His work has been exhibited at the Milan furniture fair and is in use in various NYC residences.
Matthew’s background is as both a fine furniture maker and interior designer. His furniture bridges traditional techniques of craft with modernism and contemporary styles. By creating objects that are highly durable and also comfortable to use, his pieces are both respectful of the scarcity of natural resources and durable for everyday use. They will outlive the average piece of furniture and become cherished heirlooms over time.
